Walkabout Nature Study Classes

Tuesdays at 2:00pm

Location:

Fenner Nature Center (2020 E Mt Hope Ave, Lansing MI 48910)

meet by the pollinator garden, near the Maple Grove Loop trail, to the left of the visitor building

trails walked will vary each week, with input from students

Information:

Class geared towards students upper elementary-middle school level

Hands-on science in an outdoor setting

Mobile classroom stocked with all necessary materials (art supplies, science equipment, field guides, etc..)

Animal encounters with a rotating selection of class pets

Note: This is not a drop-off class

Arrange for a responsible adult to be on the grounds of Fenner Nature Center during the length of the class

Covid policy: mask friendly but not required, your instructor has been fully vaccinated

Please do not attend if you are experiencing Covid symptoms or have had a known exposure within 7 days

Cost:

Free taster sessions in April

May-September classes are $10 per week per student for drop-in students

or $25 a month per student for students who commit to the whole month

Confidential scholarship program available for students facing financial hardship, no questions asked

Dino Day Classes

Second and Fourth Thursdays of the month at 10:00am

private location in the Lansing-Holt area

Information:

Class geared towards students 3-6 years old

Montessori inspired tray work materials cover math, science, pre-reading, and life skills

Sensory bins, small world play opportunities, art projects, shifting through shale for real fossils, etc..

Animal encounters with a rotating selection of class pets

Open air classroom (not pictured above) with overhead weather protection

Note: This is not a drop-off class

Arrange for a responsible adult to be present during class

Pigeon in the Park

Second Saturday of the month at 2:00pm

Location:

Valhalla Park (2287 Pine Tree Rd, Holt MI 48842)

meet on the paved trail between the playground and the beach

Information:

All ages welcome, family friendly

Pigeon storytime and pigeon art

Learn about various species of birds (anatomy, diet, behavior, habitat, etc..)

Meet Buddy the disabled racing pigeon

Note: This is not a drop-off class
